cow town triumph

In the sheer triumph
Of all animals on this planet
Getting to live together on
This big
Hunk of rock,
I see
Miracles each day
With
Species other than humans.

Yesterday,
As I watched a dog in a fenced
Pen on a small farm plot,
I wondered what he was curious about as he looked on into
The sun
As it
Slipped away
Into its moon robe.
The spectacle was a 300 plus pound
Black cow
With
Extra bent front legs
Leaning his head under
A fence post low
To the ground
To get his big
Porterhouse mouth around
Some errant apples that
Finally succumbed to the earth’s seasons
And ripened down to the ground.

As my car swirled by,
I rubbernecked as long as I could
Laughing,
Cheering
For this
Big
Animal of shared our
Planet
Trying to
Get
Just a bit of that
Apple pie.

in this modern day and era

of thought police
and music cops
and publisher peddlers out
on
copyright hunts,
I heard a nice old man
At the library the other day
Belaboring over whether or
Not he could make a simple
Copy of a
Tax funded article in
A Time Magazine.

As the nice library woman
Who always has the look as though
She just ran a mile and needs
To pee bad
Explained that it’s just fine.

This didn’t go over well.

So she continued.

And one way or another as
The voices shuffled in almost muted loudness,
I saw him walk away in confidence
Ready to copy the thoughts of another for his
Own benefit
And it
Was then that
I saw Shakespeare and Mark Twain
Behind a building in MacBeth
Punching the copyright bastards right between
The eyes for
Making the world
Afraid to
Free fall
Into
The
Abyss of
Human thought
And
Wonder.
